Jane Bolton, Product Director
Arc 2000 offers the perfect combination of excellent snow conditions throughout the season, an extensive ski area suitable for all abilities, and loads of facilities to keep you entertained when you’re off the hill. The highest of the Les Arcs’ villages at an impressive altitude of 2,000m, Arc 2000 provides access to 128 marked pistes, 200km of legendary downhill skiing and 77 interconnected ski lifts. The ski resort also offers direct access to the slopes, including the stunning Aiguille Rouge (aka The Red Needle) – Les Arcs’ highest peak at 3,226m. If that wasn’t enough to get excited about, Arc 2000 boasts a wide range of accommodation options, lively bars and restaurants, and all the amenities you could ever want on a ski holiday you won’t forget in a hurry!
Arc 2000 Mountain Facts
The Les Arc villages have always been a top destination for skiers looking for some serious terrain. Sitting high above the clouds and surrounded by magnificent peaks like Aiguille Rogue and Grand Col (2,832m), Arc 2000 offers easy access to all 128 marked runs in Les Arcs, which means you won’t have to go far in your ski boots to make it up the mountain. There are a further 200 pistes across the massive Paradiski ski area – the second largest connected ski area in the world. The mountain is serviced by a state-of-the-art network of 77 lifts, so getting around always feels easy. Arc 2000 has beginner-friendly nursery slopes as well as a selection of linked blue and red runs that make for the perfect ski holiday destination for intermediates.
Snow conditions in Arc 2000
You can count on Arc 2000 to deliver excellent snow throughout the ski season. The altitude plays a big part, but it’s also because the main bowl faces northeast and stays cool in the shade. This makes the snow some of the best around. In recent seasons, the resort has seen a seriously impressive snowfall of up to 498 cm spread across 32 days – with a 55 cm bucketload being the 10-year record. The base depth reached up to 320cm, averaging around 186cm, while the summit hit a max of 430cm with an average depth of 272cm.
Why ski in Arc 2000?
With an actual resort height of 2100m (it was named ‘2000’ in the 60s to sound futuristic), ski lifts as high as 3230m providing access to Aiguille Rouge glacier skiing, and easy links to the wider winter wonderland of the Paradiski area, Arc 2000 is an awesome place to ski. Here’s some savvy advice:
Arc 2000 offers some of the most challenging but satisfying skiing in the entire area and the most famous run might be the tough east facing 7km Aiguille Rouge to Arc Villaroger de Pre (which comprises a 2000m vertical drop), but there’s also plenty of outstanding off-piste skiing available from the top point of the Aiguille Rouge cable car and Le Grand Col chairlift.
The various wide blue and red runs leading back to the resort are excellent for novice and intermediate skiers building their confidence and every village in Les Arcs has nursery slopes for absolute beginners.
The fabulously efficient ski lift system means it’s easy to reach the rest of the Paradiski area, which has 435km of pistes, runs at elevations of 1200 to 3250m and three peaks at an altitude of over 3000m.
Many of the runs around Les Arcs afford fantastic views across the valley to the neighbouring resort of La Rosiere and magnificent Mont Blanc. When the sun sets after a gloriously sunny day, Mont Blanc takes on a magical pink hue which is simply stunning.
Les Arcs is linked to La Plagne by the double-decker Vanoise Express cable car from Plan Peisey.
When weather conditions are wild around Arc 2000, snow patrol may only open the Marmottes and the heated and bubble protected Pre St. Esprit chair lifts but you can still find good skiing spots in tree-lined runs at Arc 1600 (accessible via shuttle bus) or alternatively, the Rhonaz drag lift will deposit you at the Villaroger area, which is also more sheltered.
As you can see, Arc 2000 is a sweet spot for every type of skier, the area around Les Arcs offers even more variety and Paradiski has more pristine pistes than you can shake a stick at!
